I’ve just finished listening to a “Webinar” hosted by Nathan Buchan (World Nate) and Hannah Martin (Intrepid Introvert). They spoke of how to build an online following. I’m not sure if I want an online following, but I do like the idea of having a space where I can post things that people might relate to.
At the moment, I live in London, United Kingdom. I’m 24 years old and I live with my boyfriend of six years. His name is Chris, but he has been known as “Boy” his entire life, and he is 25. We are both from Whakatane, New Zealand. Why am I writing a blog? Because things have changed. Until recently, it was not something I considered as a feasible hobby for me. During the webinar, Hannah said “Never think you’re not interesting enough” which is the exact sentiment I have been debating in my head!
Leaving NZ to go travelling isn’t a new idea, or even a particularly interesting idea. Lots of young kiwis head off overseas each year to travel the world, and go on their OE. What I didn’t realise would happen before I left, although I was told by so many people, is how much I was going to change. Things that I thought were important when I lived in NZ don’t register as things anymore; some of the insecurities I felt at home don’t exist anymore, whereas others still persist…
This blog is a challenge to me – I want to prove to myself that I can write a blog, and that it’s ok to feel nervous about it! I thought I would write about where I’m from, where I’ve been, my hobbies, my insecurities about writing a blog… Hopefully someone out there will relate to what I write. I’ve found many blogs and vlogs and Instagram accounts out there that I relate to, and I’d like to join the community!
My next post is going to be about Boy and I, and how we ended up in the UK!
Bye for now!
